CHRIS' CORNER

Cris Rio - Lt. Gov of Marketing

NEW ISSUEVolume 2, Issue 5

November 31, 2006

Fellow Toastmasters,

Here is the 5th issue of Volume 2 of Chris’ Corner – on time for a change! Yes, I had to add a 31st day to November to accomplish that milestone.  As we speak (or as I write and you read) I am preparing to go to Winter Top 3 training in beautiful upstate NJ where I will be locked up with my fellow wizards from Region VII from Friday Evening until Sunday Noon.  We will be spending our time telling each other how great we are and how things that aren’t going so well aren’t our fault and can’t be helped.  Many of us will be posturing for FID (Future International Director).  Aside from the hot air, however, we will do analysis of how well our districts are serving the member and strategize on how to finish the Toastmasters Year on June 31.  If November can get an extra day, so can June.

  • Chris’ Clinic Update:  The next call on SUNDAY December 10th at 8:01 pm will be entitled “Its December 10th – do you know how your clubs are doing?”.  We will be going over various reports, and how to use them in helping clubs/members achieve their goals.
  • Winter Training Update All are Welcome

  • Spring Contests (Repeat form last month):  The spring cycle of contests is for Speech Evaluation and the International Speech.  Clubs need to get their contest done by February 28th.  Well not really, just before your Area contest – so find out when it is.  Areas need to be done by March 24th. Well not really, just before your Division Contest – so find out when it is.  Division Contests need to be done by April 30 - according to our calendar.  Definitely not really as the District Contest will be on April 28.  SO PLEASE GOVERNORS AND OFFICERS PICK & PUBLISH YOUR DATES SOON.  Contestants – start working on speeches now, and think of entering more than one club contests.

What Happened Recently (No one asked but I will tell you anyway)

  • Sunday Night Toastmasters, Chris’ Clinic, You Make the Call.  The eighth call was November 12 and.  About 2 people phoned in - I and Donna M Kaiser.  Since the purpose was to compile your wishes for Winter Training, what Donna and I came up with will have to suffice!  Please remember, these calls are for you – use them.
  • District Conference:  Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.  To the right is one shot from Friday fun night.  I am not sure who that man is or what he was doing but it sure looks interesting.

I would like to thank the many people that helped:  Paula, Herb and the entire conference committee; the judges, contestants and other contest support staff; Elliot and the fun night judges and contestants; the workshop presenters and Robert for arranging the tribute to Grafton.

Randy Harvey was a big hit, the bookstore was well received, and Janice did a bang up job (as always) with the awards ceremony.

Congratulations Champions Pat Rocchi and Darien Marshll.

chris
