CHRIS' CORNER

Cris Rio - Lt. Gov of Marketing

NEW ISSUEVolume 1, Issue 3

May 17, 2006

Fellow Toastmasters,

Hello District 38!  The Conference is over, April dues are paid (well mostly) and there are 6 more weeks to the year.  Many thanks for all you have done, but were not quite done yet.

This is the third issue of Chris’ Corner – and I have learned a lot.

  1. Most people don’t read this (that’s good news because of numbers 2&3)
  2. Those that do have comments.
  3. I have received an offer for technical editing! (Will use it next month)
  4. Sticking to a monthly communication is harder than I thought.

As always, if anyone has contributions for inclusion in future issues, just send them my way.  Some recent suggestions – have an agenda for your Chris’ Clinic and get a toll free number!

What Happened in April and Early May?

  1. Monday Night Toastmaster, Chris’ Clinic, You Make the Call.  The second call was May 08.  Holly Cyrus, Paula Tompko, Kathleen Glasgow-Shannon, Jim Samuel, Jim Kaufman, Jake De Rooy, Herb Rheinstrom, Janice Coleman and I attended.  Some items discussed included: checking club membership on line, elections and officers lists, the NEW Competent Leader Manual, training, and the Fall Conference.  Thank you all for sharing.
  2. Demos:  A large delegation went to T-Mobile in Allentown, Hershey in Hershey (we got lunch and chocolate) and NJ Department of Treasury (2 times!).  They were all splendid events and I think all clubs will charter soon. Thank you to all who have helped. Janice, our DG, and her stellar team also had a successful demo in Willingboro, NJ.
  3. We want you back campaign final update.  Traudi Thomason led the team and got the cards out.  Thanks Traudi!  I have received several calls because of it, mostly positive.  Some people do not even realize their memberships have lapsed.
  4. We had the Conference. Congratulations and thanks to Judy, Terrell and the Star Team.  Congratulations to the incoming district leadership team, and thank you to the outgoing team.
  5. Distict38 Toll Free Number (800-834-2241) – This was meant primarily for marketing, and I have received several calls from prospective members and…  5 hang ups, Rachel (our PRO) and her mother checking the message several times, Regina (the best fact checker the district has  ever had!) with several helpful suggestions, and a few confused soles wondering if they were still members.

All input I have received to include:  (blank except these few words!)

What’s coming up the rest of May and Early June?

  1. Dues! One more time.  Please send in the stragglers – check your club roster and remind those that have not paid.  It is that easy.
  2. District Wide June 10, ETS
  3. New Club Demonstrations.  Let me know if you can help.
     - NJ Department of Treasury, Trenton (the 3rd and final), May 19 noon.
     - High Concrete, Lancaster, June 6, 4:30pm
     - FAA Advanced Club, Atlantic City Airport, Date, TBD

Anything Else?  Sure Toastmasters Can’t Keep Quiet.

  1. Please start using the New CL Book. Everyone should get one and use it each meeting!
  2. Attend Training. Every Division will Sponsor.
  3. Turn in your Officers Lists and Educational Achievements – Don’t be a pack rat!
  4. Use www.toastmasters.org and www.tmdistrict38.org. Information, Calendar, Reports, etc.

That’s all for this month’s issue of Chris’ Corner.  Your comments are welcome.  If you want something included, please send it to me.  Next issue on or about June 15

Good luck, see you at the training, and thanks for all you do,

Chris
